The Muskingum University Activities Fair was held on Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the John Glenn gym.
The Activities Fair is an annual fair that is normally held on the quad, but, due to the weather, it was moved inside. The event consists of campus activities, organizations, and programs and is held to help promote the activities and organizations in which students can possibly become involved.
"The Activities Fair is great for students to see different organizations and activities," said Staff Coordinator for Student Involvement Gina Tamburro. "It's a chance where they can get connected and involved."
This was the first opportunity that many incoming first-year students and transfer students had had to meet with organization leaders to ask questions and learn about the programs that they are interested in becoming involved with.
"I enjoyed the Activities Fair," said first-year student Chandler Marston. "I didn't know that there were so many activities and organizations available on campus."
Even the Activities Fair veterans, upperclassmen, enjoyed the environment of the Activities Fair.
"The Activities Fair is really fun," said sophomore Chelsea Blamble. "There are a lot of clubs and opportunities for students to get involved."
Some of the staff believes that the Activities Fair is a great opportunity for clubs and organizations to come out and show what they have to offer the first-year students as well as upper-class students.
"I think the student organizational fair is a wonderful event to bring all the student organizations together in a united front," said Student Life Coordinator Stacey Allan. "It shows that they provide activities outside of the classroom that are both educational and social."
As for social organizations, Greek life seemed to stand out in the eyes of some students.
"It was really nice getting to meet all the different sororities," said sophomore Alli Millat. "I want to rush come this spring and it was a good way to break the ice."
There were also some new social clubs, along with the returning ones. Although they are not "new", the Ulster Fraternity was among the returning social clubs, after having been on probation for a year.
"It's great to be back on campus," said senior Thomas Patterson. "Everyone has been really helpful with us this year and the Activities Fair is a great opportunity for the club to get its name out to students who may not have known who we were."
The Activities Fair this year seemed to have a substantial turnout. The gym was packed with people shoulder to shoulder for the majority of the fair. Some excitement even evolved when a flash mob of university students appeared on the bleachers dancing to the song "Raise Your Glass" by Pink.
"That was a pretty interesting thing to see," said Patterson. "It wasn't anything I was expecting and I don't think anyone else was either. I don't think it had ever happened before but it was kind of a cool experience."
