On Nov. 8, New Concord residents participated in the 2011 General Election, with the results paving the way for the sale of alcohol in New Concord.
New Concord residents also voted on three separate proposed Ohio issues, turning down Issues 1 and 2, and voting in favor of Issue 3.
In addition to alcohol options and state issues, Village Council positions were also on the ballot.
As of press time, New Concord residents voted down the sale of alcohol at Circle K by 51% as well as voting down the sale of alcohol at Circle K on Sundays by 58%. For the option of alcoholic beverages being sold at Riesbeck's in New Concord, villagers voted in favor of the option by 54%. With these results, Circle K cannot apply for a liquor license while Riesbeck's is permitted to.
For the three state issues, Muskingum County residents voted down Issue 1 with a 61% vote against the issue, which compares to Ohio voters as a whole voting against the issue by 62%. Muskingum County residents also voted down Issue 2 with a 59% vote and Ohio voters voted against the issue as well by 61%. Issue 3 was the only issue voted in favor of by both Muskingum County and Ohio voters by 64% and 66%, respectively.
For the Village of New Concord Administration, Mayor R. Gregory Adams was re-elected, as he ran unopposed. For New Concord Village Council, Robert Dickson was re-elected and Jennifer Bronner was elected into Council. Jordan Stewart completed his term and will not be returning to Village Council.
Although listed on the Muskingum County Board of Elections website as unofficial, our phone call to the Muskingum County Board of Elections confirms these results are final.
