Being on the Muskingum College campus means seeing one particular thing every day.

Students and faculty have them. Someone wears one every day. These articles are none other than the “Be”-themed organizational shirts.

The “Be” shirt epidemic has taken the Muskingum College Campus by storm.

Rebecca Delo, assistant director of Career Services and leadership programs, has been part of making the present subjunctive-themed shirts possible.

“The idea started last summer when someone mentioned that a similar project had been done at another school,” said Delo.

Delo talked to the Student Senate Executive Board and worked out all of the details over the summer.

“I was excited to have a theme that all organizations could be a part of,” said Delo.

First-year Molly Scholl likes the “Be” theme.

“My first ‘Be’ shirt was ‘Be Involved’ and, other than that shirt, I have about five other ones just from being in organizations,” said Scholl.

Any group on campus could acquire “Be” shirts for their group. The slogans are unique to each group that creates them.

“I tell people that the ‘Be’ campaign will go on as long as groups are interested in participating,” said Delo.

By the looks of how popular the shirts are, organizational groups on campus might wish to continue the “Be”-shirt trend next semester.

Sophomore Jason “Garrett” Frederici said he likes the “Be” theme.

“I have three ‘Be’ shirts: ‘Be Involved,’ ‘Be Sneaky’ and my personal favorite, ‘B Skank,’” said Frederici. “It’s mainly my favorite, because I’m such an avid fan of Barb Shank.”

Over 90 slogans that are unique to organizations and offices exist.

On April 21 at 11 a.m. on the quad people can bring “Be” shirts and swap slogans or sizes with other “Be” shirt owners.

“There may have been a few shirts hidden to give away,” said Delo.

The goal for this swap was that everyone who wanted an organizational shirt could get one. If a student feels as though he or she missed out on the endless giveaways, that student could come to the swap and “Grab a piece of ‘Be’ history.”

“I would like to own the ‘Be A Weiner’ shirt that the Dial-A-Dog people get to wear,” said Frederici.

Scholl and Frederici said they would like to see the “Be”-shirt craze continue.

“You go to other schools and they don’t have ‘Be’ shirts,” said Frederici. “It’s one of the little, quirky things that makes Muskingum who we are.”

Although each “Be” shirt differs by color scheme and slogan, the back of each T-shirt carries the unifying “Be A Muskie” motto.

“I really think its neat how the ‘Be’ shirts unite us as Muskingum College, but [also] how each individual group has its own color and slogan,” said Scholl.
