I spend a lot of my time in the B&M office, editing articles and designing pages, not to mention trying, along with the great and wonderful help from my staff, to prepare the news for our beloved Muskingum campus and all who inhabit it.
However, during my time as Editor-in-Chief, this office has been lacking one thing that has left the entire staff pondering whether our fellow students even read the news we so tediously prepare for them.
What is this absence within our journalistic lives? It is, sadly, the absence of our Letters to the Editor which seemed so painfully plentiful last academic year when our former Editor-in-Chief, Joshua Chaney, was writing his own opinion columns, using subjects that seemed to fire everyone up.
Some of his columns became known as the “column heard ‘round the campus."
People couldn’t comment fast enough on his blood pressure-rising statements.
I’m not the type of Editor to include my own personal, political, or religious beliefs within my column, but I really would appreciate it if students, faculty, and staff would comment and express their own opinions and feelings about the content being covered.
Many things have been covered thus far - many topics I believe Muskingum students would like to comment on.
How do you send a letter to the Editor? Type up your personal feelings about a particular topic we’ve covered, include your name, and e-mail it to us at bandm@muskingum.edu.
It’s just that easy to make your voice count and be heard at Muskingum.
I welcome any comments, just make sure they are respectful and appropriate for publication.
Oh, and stupid comments about a missing period don’t really count as a topic I’m looking for someone to bring up.
So, Muskingum, what do you have to offer? What do you have to say? Want to make a difference or make a statement known?
C’mon, get fired up - get the campus fired up - I dare ya.
