To the Editor:
The ire raised over the editorial “The greatest Greek tragedy” is nothing short of ridiculous.
It was written like satire should be; tongue firmly in cheek, but containing a grain of truth.
Anyone who has eyes or ears on campus should know of the shenanigans that occur during pledge week as well as at other times of the year.
Anyone who knows more than a few Greeks will know that they are no more prone to drunken revelry than any other student.
Greek life serves, by way of the “pretty OK” parties they throw, to bring revelers together.
If successful, they can increase the fun had by all. My problem with Greek life is, therefore, their swift action against the editorial.
Given that Greeks are not, (like the stereotypes) idiots, they should understand that the writer has no misgivings about Greek life, nor would those who read the editorial.
This, to me, is just another symptom of the real negative aspect of Greek life: That they take themselves far too seriously.
No matter what your perceived status is on campus, you are not and should not be immune to all criticism.
Lighten up, calm down, and continue to throw pretty OK parties.
Sincerely,
Gareth Klieber
