Logan named OAC Football Coach of the Year

NEW CONCORD — Muskingum University head football coach Al Logan was honored by his peers Monday when the Ohio Athletic Conference announced that Coach Logan was named the OAC Football Coach of the Year.

The OAC also revealed that senior offensive lineman Steve Emmert was selected Second Team All-OAC, and junior quarterback Jake Burns and junior tight end Blake Allen were selected to the All-OAC Honorable Mention squad.

Logan, a 1982 Muskingum graduate and a former Muskie All-American and member of the Muskingum Athletic Hall of Fame, led the Muskies to a 4-6 overall mark and 4-5 slate and fifth place finish in the OAC. He directed the Muskies to their highest league finish since the 2003 campaign. Muskingum ended the season as one of the hottest teams in the league, winning four of its last six games. Logan becomes the first Muskingum coach to garner the Coach of the Year honor since former Coach Jeff Heacock brought home the distinction in 1989.

Emmert, who was offensive captain for the Muskies, anchored the offensive line which helped Muskingum rush for 1,155 yards on the year and average 302.4 yards of offense per game. He is a two-time All-OAC honoree (2008, 2009).

Burns, who ranked third in the Ohio Athletic Conference in total offense per game (232.6) and fifth in passing yards per game (186.6), ended his stellar season ranked second all-time at Muskingum in career total offense (4,557) and ranked third all-time in career passing yards with 3,766. He set a new school mark for touchdown passes in a season with 14 and set the school record for total offense in a game with his 381 yard performance against Ohio Northern University.

Allen registered career-highs in receptions (28), yards (331) and touchdowns (4). He averaged 33.1 yards receiving per outing and 11.8 yards per catch.
