One academic department that has recently undergone substantial changes is Graduate and Continuing Studies.
Four new majors designed for individuals holding Associate's Degrees in Allied Health fields are now being offered in the department.
Upon completion of the program, a Bachelor's of Science will be obtained.
The concentrations of the new majors are in community health, health science, health studies and healthcare management.
According to Cindy Wilkins, Assistant Dean of Graduate and Continuing Studies and Associate Professor of Nursing at Muskingum University, the program was created to accommodate working health professionals, offering flexible class formats in online, daytime, and evening options as well as in 1-week, 5-week, and 10-week sessions.
"As students are coming from all different blocks of life in their health care professional field, they are looking for different kinds of things," said Wilkins. "Some of them are interested in management, some of them are interested in the actual science of healthcare. It just depends on what their goals are, and what they intend to do with the degree. Employers are beginning to ask and require Bachelor's degrees for positions within their organization; in particular, leadership positions."
Muskingum University has a variety of different academic departments to help students decide which career path is the right one for them,
and the new Allied Health majors will extend to students opportunities not previously offered, which have the opportunity to broaden students' range of academic abilities and in turn, lead to better career opportunities for them.
