Gyro N Kabob, located at 1825 Maple Avenue in Zanesville, Ohio, recently opened in Zanesville and is part of a family establishment.

Tabouli, falafel, hummus, fattoush, and gyros. All of these are Greek dishes many people have never heard of. At Gyro N Kabob, a newly established Greek restaurant on Maple Avenue in Zanesville, these dishes are just a few of their specialties.

With a slogan like "We serve fresh food with natural and healthy ingredients" neatly printed on their menu, it is no surprise that this is the restaurant's top priority. Derek Rhageb, the owner of Gyro N Kabob, believes that fresh ingredients are of the upmost importance.

"We've been serving fresh, healthy food," said Rhageb. "People get tired from fast food. What we're doing here is fresh meat, fresh vegetables, olive oil. People enjoy it a lot. We knew people would love it because you've got everything here fresh. Like beef, chicken, kafta, falafel. All of this stuff is very famous and very fresh and very healthy."

Rhageb, whose father is Egyptian and mother is Greek, has been around Greek cooking all of his life. It wasn't a   hard decision to establish the restaurant in Zanesville.

"My grandfather has been doing the shop for years," said Rhageb. "This is originally our job. We got the idea to come be in Zanesville because [of] my brother. He has a shop on Linden and I was with him one time, driving. I love the city. I love the people here very much. It was a surprise for me to be in a small town like this and then find very good people. Nice people. It's not about the town. It's about the people. It's friendly, nice, good looking. I like that."

When asked about the reception of the restaurant, Rhageb responded positively.

"We are very proud of what we're doing here and we knew people would love it," said Rhageb. "Was it a surprise when people loved it? No, we knew people would love it because you've got everything here fresh."

Michael Tabatowski, a sophomore at New York University and previous customer of Gyro N Kabob, enjoys Greek food for a variety of reasons.

"I like Greek food because it has a really interesting blend of flavors," said Tabatowski. "The grape leaves are the best."

Gyro N Kabob is open Monday through Friday between 10:30 a.m. and 9 p.m., Saturday between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., and Sunday between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. The restaurant is located at 1825 Maple Avenue in Zanesville, Ohio. To contact the restaurant cal (740) 297-7529 or visit gyroskabob.com.
