Facebook has undergone a lot of changes in the past year, let alone the past few months.
For anyone that hasnt been on the website in that time, keeping up with all the changes can be a daunting task.
Some of the changes are evident the moment you log in.
On the right side of the screen, you can see a list of people available for chat, including their online or mobile status, always visible.
Above that is the mini-feed, a display of updates made by your friends and groups youre a part of right above your friends list.
This also stays visible no matter what page you go to.
It feels kind of like spam, said sophomore and frequent Facebook user Alex Rokakis, Although its nice, its just too much on one screen at one time.
As if the additional ways to keep track of your updates werent enough, you can also adjust your feed to display either the most recent or most popular updates.
One of the biggest changes can be seen on the profiles.
What was once a wall is now the timeline, changing the layout for what activity you have done on Facebook, as well as what your friends have done in interaction with you.
The timeline is definitely more organized, but I like the feel of how the wall was, said Rokakis.
Since the timeline is chronologically organized, it goes back to a users birth, if someone wanted to scroll down that far.
Its a very easy way to see their first post when they had no idea what they were doing, said Rokakis.
In addition, the top of the timeline displays both a profile photo and a cover image.
The cover image can be used for just about anything, from other pictures of the user, their interests, or even left blank.
Through the profile you can also access the map feature.
This uses tags added on to posts and photos to show where a user has been.
As Facebook is a social media site, connections between users are emphasized.
Besides the updates to the chat system, Facebook has teamed up with Skype to provide video chat.
Although it is very nice, I dont know many people who have actually used it, said Rokakis.
Rokakis, like many other users, make more use of their private messages and chat options to keep up with other people, also making use of the mobile features on his phone as well.
I can just easily swipe out my phone to see if some ones updates or messaged me, said Rokakis. I wont have to go to my computer and open it up somewhere.
Many organizations and clubs on Muskingum Universitys campus also have Facebook groups to update their members.
Even the dining halls have groups, letting those that follow them see their upcoming events and menus.
Rokakis is also the secretary of the Muskingum Anime Group.
Having a group organization on Facebook is very useful, said Rokakis. It just helps organize things so youre not having to find people and call people. Its all just a forum. You only have to send one message.
With how people are using Facebook more for both personal and organization reasons, its not uncommon for them to be looked up on the site and other social media when being considered for a job.
Since Facebook seems to be making it easier to see exactly what a users activities and interests are, it could be a problem for people trying to enter the workforce.
While common sense dictates not to do anything that would be harmful, it still seems to be an issue.
This trend has led to many people creating more than one account, one for their private life, and one for a more professional image.
You really shouldnt have anything thats improper that you wouldnt want to be respected for on your Facebook, said Rokakis, Its just using it wisely.
Changes aside, Facebook is still filled with users who still use it for the same reasons.
Now all that remains is to see what changes will happen next.
Facebook had a total of 3,976 employees at the end of June 2012.
At the end of June 2012, Facebook had 955 million active montly users.
Approximately 81 percent of monthly active users are outside of the U.S. and Canada.
