The Village of New Concord implemented a noise ordinance in 1995. Most recently, excessive noise in the village has been a complaint of many New Concord residents, concerning Muskingum students who live off-campus.

The ordinance states that it was implemented to reduce the creation or excessive or unusually loud noises in the Village of New Concord, and to prevent the creation or excessive noise that is prolonged and may be an endangerment to a person's health.

A violation of the ordinance results in a minor misdemeanor on the first offense.

For general knowledge, in residential areas, noise must not exceed being plainly audible beyond 50 feet from 10 p.m. to 7 a.mMonday through Saturday and not before 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Noisy animals and garbage disposals operating before 10 a.m. are in violation of the ordinance.
