As we welcome new first years to Muskingum we also welcome new members of the Student Life staff. Gina Tamburro, Emily Hans, Jessica Brady and Clayton Shelvin are the new Student Life faces you will see around campus this year.
A native of Canton, Ohio, Tamburro received her master's degree from the University of Akron. She is replacing Rebecca Delo as the Coordinator for student involvement. She works with student organization and activities.
"I help them through the funding and event planning processes, as well as help them with any issues [or] questions they may be having," said Tamburro.
Tamburro also works with leadership development on campus to help students further their leadership abilities and skills. The second part of her job is working with Career Services to help students prepare for internships, job interviews, and going out into the real world.
"I think I bring a lot of enthusiasm, a strong desire to help students, and I am excited to explore new opportunities at Muskingum," said Tamburro.
She is looking forward to helping students find their places at Muskingum, as well as making sure they feel connected socially. One event Tamburro is looking forward to is teaching Zumba, a fitness and dancing program, Tuesday evenings in the Chess Center.
Growing up in Akron, but living in Cleveland while she attended graduate school, Jessica Brady is the newest Student Affairs Counselor. She replaced Amanda Giffords. Whether students are homesick or are struggling with depression, Brady is here to help all students with whatever problems they may be having.
"Due to counseling ethics, our sessions with students are confidential and will not be shared with others without the students' written permission," said Brady.
Brady enjoys interacting with college age students and is eager to help them in any way she can.
"I am looking forward to helping students make the most of their college experience, whether that be through the counseling process, [or] helping with activities around campus," said Brady.
Traveling all the way from New Orleans, Clayton Shelvin works as Area Coordinator of Finney Hall and the Lakeside Houses. Shelvin, who replaced Willie Lee, is also the coordinator of Multicultural Student Services.
"I am developing new programs for our minority students and making an effort to bond these communities within our campus," said Shelvin.
Currently Shelvin is working on starting a Black Student Union, which will allow the African American students on campus to share their culture with the Muskingum Community. Shelvin looks forward to working one on one with the students, and creating new programs on campus.
"My office door is always open for students who have new ideas or need assistances within the residential areas on campus," said Shelvin.
Emily Hans, who replaced Angie Thompson, is from Cleveland. Hans is the Campus Services Director.
"I am responsible for dining services on campus, along with student IDs and scheduling of special events on campus," said Hans.
Hans wants to raise excitement and awareness about the dining program. She would like to see increased student employment within campus services. She is looking forward to getting to know the students on campus and the different groups, and encourages students to give suggestions.
