The Hook: Dear Greek Life Community

Editor-in-Chief

These past few weeks at the B&M have been a whirlwind as letter after letter to the editor have poured in from all sides of the Greek Life spectrum.

Of course you know I’m referring to the editorial titled “The greatest Greek tragedy” that was placed in this very spot a few weeks ago that caused much debate throughout our campus community.

First of all, I want to say that the commentary was not meant to offend. It was supposed to be taken lightheartedly and humorously. However I understand how the meaning of the topic was misinterpreted, since wrtten words cannot express tone or personality.

Second of all, I apologize as the Editor-in-Chief for not correctly labeling the commentary as being the opinion of Rachel Thompson. The Greek Life commentary was not the opinion of the entire Editorial Board. That was a correction I simply forgot to make and I take full responsibility for that particular mistake.

Third of all, remember this was an opinion piece.

With all of these things and the opinions of the Greek Life members taken into consideration, the B&M editors have decided that there will no longer be an Editorial Board due to our busy schedules and lack of time to adequately discuss debatable topics.

Doing this will ensure that commentaries published will be correctly labelled.

One commentary will be written by a different B&M editor once a week.
Most of the Greek Life members who know me know that I would never think badly of them or their Greek Life associations. Many of those members know that I almost became a member of ASA last spring, thus I have no derogatory feelings for any of our Greek Life members.

For those who do not know me, simply know that I don’t think Greek Life is “bad” in any way. That wasn’t my opinion, although it was my fault that it was portrayed that way.

Thank you for expressing such an interest in getting your opinion heard through the pages of the B&M. Please continue to send your opinions to us because each one is greatly apprecaited.

Thank you.

Editors Note: Each week a different editor of The Black & Magenta will tackle a campus issue. Extending the cute play on our school mascot being a fish, this column is called ‘The Hook.’ If you have some bait, drop us a line at bandm@muskingum.edu.
