An altercation that happened during the spring of 2010 resulted in the Ulster fraternity being suspended from campus.
This year, the fraternity is allowed back on campus because of their good behavior. Members have abided by their guidelines in not wearing their organization's colors or letters on campus.
They are now able to wear colors, have a pledge class, and also represent their club in activities. The Ulster fraternity is very excited to represent their club after one year being removed.
"It feels amazing," said Tommy Patterson, a senior Ulster member. "It's good to be back on campus."
With their return, the Ulster fraternity, like other sororities and fraternities has a focus to attract and recruit new pledges.
One such activity that the organization has participated in was the Activities Fair. This event allowed them to represent Ulster and get recognition from first year students as well as students who may not know who they are.
"We met a lot of freshman at the activities fair that seemed interested," said senior Ulster member Shawn Feistamel. "Hopefully we can find a lot more."
Another activity that Ulster was a part of this year was the annual pool party thrown for the freshman on the first weekend of fall semester.
"Now that we can finally represent ourselves I have noticed everyone on campus likes to see it," said Ulster Vice President Michael Frasure. "We always get positive comments about it."
He also mentions that maybe curiosity is a good attraction to the club because of their absence and return.
"The freshman this year talk about the Ulster club because it was kicked off last year and it is its first year back so I know there are many freshman that are really curious in joining the club."
Recruiting students and selecting students to pledge is a decision that will represent the club,
"Well we are looking for some kids that are going to keep us in line" said Patterson. "We are not trying to look for people who are going to get us into trouble."
The return of the Ulster fraternity to the campus is a deserved right for the organization due to their good behavior and obedience to the guidelines previously set. They are making it a point to stay out of trouble and maybe in the future they will get their house back on campus along with successfully recruiting a large pledge class.
