Many students come to college and no longer participate in the same activities that they used to because they either don't know of any sports or clubs they would want to join that interest them or they are just nervous to join because they don't know anyone from that particular group.

"We try to be as open as possible to different skill levels," said president of the ultimate frisbee club Kristin Rorapaugh. "Anybody is welcome."

Ultimate frisbee may be a little more complex than most expect.  When the word ‘frisbee' comes to mind, most people just think of two people standing apart from each other and tossing the disc back and forth.  Ultimate frisbee combines multiple sports into one.

"It's kind of like football because you have a few people on the team who are called handlers, which are people who toss the disc up-field. Then the rest of them are like wide receivers running down the field, trying to catch it," said sophomore Cort Forgrave when asked to compare ultimate frisbee to other sports.

Ultimate frisbee incorporates soccer as well because both teams are constantly running up and down the field until one of the teams scores.  The only time there is a break in the game is when a team scores.  The teams then proceed to the opposite ends of the field.  The team that just scored then throws the disc downfield to the opponents, like a kick off in football.

"It is a pretty competitive sport, but it's also a lot of fun," said junior Andy Wills. "It's a good cardio workout to go along with having a good time with friends."

Some people are hesitant to play because they either don't know the rules or they just don't understand the game.

"It's something that is easily learned and that it's always fun," said Rorapaugh. "It doesn't matter how good or bad you are. It's just a fun sport to come out and enjoy with friends."

The ultimate frisbee club tries to meet every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, but sometimes the weather interferes with play.  They also travel around Ohio and compete against other schools, whether it's just a head to head competition or a tournament.  The club is making a trip to Athens at the end of the month for a tournament at Ohio University.
