The Muskingum University women’s soccer team lost to John Carroll University at home on senior day by the score of 3-0. The main focus of the day was on the one and only senior on the team, Shelli Fisher.

Shelli Fisher completed the last game of her collegiate career at Muskingum University last Saturday. During her time here, Fisher played in 58 games and started in 38 of those games and recorded four goals and three assists.

“Shelli was the type of teammate that would always bring me up and be very positive on the field,” said first-year Meghan Carlisle. I’ve learned from Shelli to always have confidence on the field and to just be myself.”

In the game Saturday, John Carroll started the game off with two quick scores on the Muskies’ in the first eight minutes and later scored in the second half of play to seal the deal against the Muskies’.

“My four years here at Muskingum have been great especially because of soccer,” said Shelli Fisher. My favorite part was that I made a lot of great friends whom I will continue to be friends with for the rest of my life.”

In her senior year, Fisher recorded one goal; two assists and gathered up four total points.

“The last game of the season was a muddy mess. It’s always fun playing soccer in the rain but this was a little different,” said Fisher. “It was hard to run because our feet would sink into the mud; it was like playing in a swamp.”

First-year Taryn Payton started between the nets and played 75 minutes, allowing three goals but also collecting 10 saves on the day. First-year Carrie Puckett played the final 15 minutes in the net for the Muskies.

“Shelli always brought the team together and gave encouragement before every game,” said sophomore Jaime Suhre. “I also learned from Shelli to have confidence and stay positive all the times.”

The lady Muskies finished the season with the overall record of 4-15 and 0-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

“One of the life lessons that I have learned from soccer is that no matter how bad it is or how frustrating it is you just have to work hard to get through it and usually if you stay positive then you will have a better outcome,” said Fisher.
