The lady muskies volleyball team battled in the OAC/NCAC challenge last weekend, losing all four matches after dominating Ohio Wesleyan a few days before. Going into the tournament at Ohio Northern University, the Muskies were on a 10-3 hot streak with momentum on their side but fell short to four different teams during the matches.

Wednesday night the Muskies found their way to the top in a great out of conference win on the road at Ohio Wesleyan. The first set was by the score of (25-22), while the second series was (25-18), and the final one being (25-20).

Sophomore, Hanna Rose lead the team with nine kills, while first-year Alexa Abrams accumulated eight kills and three blocks to maintain the edge.

"I still think that we can improve on the toughness of our serves," said Abrams. When we find our groove, we are a great team and its goes back to doing the little things that separate the average teams from the great ones."

Sophomore Kim Seitter contributed to 17 digs at Ohio Wesleyan and junior Mindy Mcdorman assisted with 12 digs of her own to put the cherry on top for the Muskies victory.

The lady Muskies would then travel up to Ohio Northern, for a would be victorious tournament.

Bluffton University defeated the Muskies by the score of 3-0. Mt. St. Joseph won 3-2. Transylvania and Hanover University gained the upper hand with both results at 3-1.

For the encounter with Bluffton, junior Lauren Tullis fought for 10 kills and senior Mckensie Smith attributed 16 assist.

"We just weren't consistent this past weekend and became very frustrated at times," said Smith. We had a lot of errors to add with that and I just feel like we need to get back to doing what Coach Zicha wants us to do."

During the Mount St. Joseph duel, Tullis led the team attack with nine kills, Rose and first-year Kassi Flores each had seven spikes. Smith led with 19 assists and Abrams led the defense with 20 digs.

When they faced Transylvania, Smith led the way with 14 kills and 16 assists and against Hanover, Smith logged 11 kills and Abrams recorded eight spikes.

Senior Molly Scholl registered 64 assists total over the weekend, which led the team in the losses.

"We want to do well this season and improve our record," said Scholl. Focus is definitely needed when we get into playing our conference teams, and if we are able to successfully keep our focus, than we can compete at the top."

At the conclusion of the tournament, Mckensie Smith was named to the all-tournament team.

"To get prepared for our upcoming games we need to turn up the energy in practice and push ourselves," said Smith. That way we will find out ways to stay a consistent volleyball team."

Muskingum strikes the court next when it hosts Ohio Northern University on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The match time is listed for 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, Oct.1 will further the OAC play as they travel to play the Wilmington Quakers. Time is set for 7:00 p.m.
